Architecture Practices to Watch - Inner London, United Kingdom

« back

In light of the recent pandemic, we have spent this time speaking with the architects who signed up to Pitch Your Concepts during our soft launch. These architecture practice's leaders are the early adopters - one of the first hundred architects who saw how digital tools can improve the way they work. During these conversations, we had the chance to find out more details about the projects they are working on, talk about the challenges faced by small to medium-sized architecture practices. This gave us greater insights into each architecture practice's experience and expertise. At the same time, we are constantly exposed to emerging architecture practices. Those who have few but excellent completed projects, as well as those who have built a wealth of experience in their practice or via previous employments.

The purpose of this piece Architecture Practices to Watch is to share our discussions and shortlist of architecture practices that we view to be carrying out exciting work across the United Kingdom. Today, we release the inaugural list with a focus in architecture practices around Inner London, including architecture practices in central London in no particular order.

Unique selling point: The combination of high-quality architecture with equally accomplished planning and interior design expertise in a boutique practice specialising in residential extensions, conversions and new build homes.

Key project:

Comprehensive refurbishment of and addition of a two-storey extension to a 14,000sq ft Grade II* listed house. This was a task that required the highest sensitivity to the existing fabric of the building, a great eye for how the spaces could be restored and refreshed to regain its original grandeur, as well as a deep understanding of the regulations that are there to protect our heritage.

Recent projects:

Complete renovation/interior restructuring of Belgravia mews house. We transformed a once dingy and dark dwelling in an enviable location into a building whose elegant and light-filled interior is now the equal of its exterior. Highlights include a bespoke oak-and-glass corner staircase running from the bottom floor to the roof terrace.

Design of a block of eight new-build flats on an awkward inner-city site. The generous flats are all dual aspect and there is a roof garden, giving residents that crucial access to outdoor space that hard to come by so near a major shopping street.

Large house with a swimming pool on a Green Belt site. Getting planning permission for sizeable dwellings on Green Belt sites is a Holy Grail for many, and this shows it can be done in the right location with the right combination of architectural inspiration and planning insight.
